Old Mill Camp Modular Building Project
Reconstruction of sleeping quarters lost in the 2005 flood

In spite of floods, inflation and many other obstacles, the Old Mill Camp continues to gives us a unique opportunity to present the message of Christ in a beautiful and tranquil setting; an environment that is drastically different and refreshing when compared to the rat-race in the concrete jungles of Naples. Our plans have been to increase the use of the camp for outreach to include training retreats for Italian Pastors; marriage enrichment retreats and week long youth camps.

The flood of 2005 forced the permanent closure of the men's dorm, eliminating 45 sleeping spaces. To use the Camp effectively we need to replace the dormitory space for the abcve programs, and to provide housing for the volunteers that come each year to work with us at Festivals. Program plans have been "on hold" for 2 years as we prayed, seeking a way to raise funds to replace the dormitory.

During Doug & Dee's "Home stay" in Oregon they shared the need for funds to add sleeping areas to the Camp with their supporting churches. In early November, they were speaking at Calvary Church in The It'alles. After the service, Don Sperry came to them with the suggestion that the church might be willing to organize a team that would build the units as panels (Phase 1) , load them in a container and ship them to Naples for installation (Phase 2). Their team would travel to Italy to work with additional teams on the installation (Phase 3). With their encouragement, he took the idea to the Mission Committee, who agreed to proceed. At the same time, Valenzuelas were discussing the project with the leaders at Hardhats for Christ. They arranged for Brian Goodman, one of their project managers to travel to the Camp; evaluate the project and agreed to have Brian act as the on-site project manager. As we were taking estimates for the materials, a supporter in Union, Oregon who owns a lumber yard offered to provide the materials we need, delivered to The Dalles at a price that includes only his cost and overhead (no profit).

We have a design for structures that will meet their needs and a plan to build, ship and install them. We have volunteers who will help us build and install them. This will amount to a significant savings.

Factory-built modular duplexes furnished and installed on foundations:
$20,000

Duplexes built by volunteers; shipped and then installed by volunteers:
$7,500

The only piece missing is funding!
We need $7,500.00 to pay for the materials and shipping for each duplex:

Message from Doug Valenzuela

“We are making good progress repairing the damage done to our facilities by the flood; and the wear and tear of normal use. But the replacement of the Dormitory space we lost to water damage is our highest priority.

This brochure details the proposal to build and install modular buildings that will replace the lost Dormitory space. It is definitely an ambitious project. But the design allows us to utilize land that is above the flood plain without destroying the beauty and historical value of the Camp. It was proposed by our supporters and is based on their commitment to act on God's leading and to rely on His provision to organize and complete these buildings. The buildings will be fabricated by volunteers in Oregon, loaded in a container and shipped to the Camp to be assembled on foundations by volunteers working with our people.

This project is a wonderful opportunity to restore the capacity of this Camp to support the Spirit-led ministries that empower the churches to reach Italy for Christ. If you can't join us, pray that the additional funding is provided; that the work will go well and be done safely and that God's Spirit will give us patience, wisdom and cooperative attitudes. The Volunteers and the Italian workers are ready and waiting.”

Doug

How can an Italian idea whose construction is done by American volunteers happen? With your help, we can bring a new vitality to the Old Mill Camp and use it to reach unbelieving Italians for Christ. We intend to build at least 4 of the b units we need. If donations allow, we will build and ship all b of them!

We're thankful that about 25% of the funding has been pledged. We still need to raise an additional $45,000. If 4 donors will give $7,500.00, 5 give $1,500.00 and 75 give $100.00, b duplexes can be built. But, it will take more than money. Although people have already pledged weeks of work in The Dalles and at the Camp, there is still a great need for additional volunteer labor.

We see God's blessing in the ways that people have responded to our request. Would you pray and ask God how He might lead you to support this project?

All Gifts are tax-deductible if given through World Venture and will go directly to the Old Mill Camp Modular Building Project. Send donations to:
